Presenting the 5th publication of the BMI Project Year 1, “Tradition and Innovation: People, Places, and Practices of Bamboo Music in the Philippines”. This project is made possible through the cooperation of the following institutes and agencies:

This is the culmination of research and ethnography conducted by the BMI Project 1 Team from 2019 until 2022. The beautiful book showcases a peek into the large world of bamboo music culture in the Philippines.

Janine Liao is the Educational Dissemination Manager of the UPCE, and also a lecturer from the UP College of Music. Her research interests include popular music, traditional kulintang music, meanings and functions of music in the social sphere, and music theory and analysis. When not working on more academic things, she is a cat mom and a kitchen hero who actively volunteers for church ministry.
