Access to Archive Materials


All archival materials may be accessed for very specific studies and/or research with a target output. The Center for Ethnomusicology and the source of unpublished materials must be duly acknowledged in all research outputs resulting thereof.

  1. Permission must be secured by the researcher for any duplication, transcription, and direct quotation in public from unpublished manuscripts. Materials from the Center’s collection will be copied if the conditions of the archives reproduction policy are met, and if the proposed copying does not breach the provisions of the Copyright Act of 1968.
  2. For unpublished and field materials, usually one volume or folder at a time will be issued to each researcher by the staff upon request. Researcher must return the material as soon as they have finished using it. Each piece will be examined to determine that its condition is as good as when delivered to the researcher.
  3. Field recordings for listening may be requested, one tape/catalogue entry at a time.
  4. Photocopying or photographing of original manuscript is strictly prohibited, unless permitted by the Director upon accomplishment of a signed / request form/contract regarding the protection and/or use of the material.
  5. Request for dubbing of published recordings may be allowed upon payment of appropriate service fees and cost of supply.
  6. Request of dubbing excerpts from field recordings (after determination of ownership and appropriate clearance) may be submitted (with indication of the exact location and duration) and will be available after one or two days. Appropriate service fees shall apply, excluding cost of tapes or cd’s.
