In celebration of the rich bamboo music heritage of the Philippines and its upcoming Independence Day commemoration, the UP Center for Ethnomusicology presents Kaway-Kawayan Para Sa Kalayaan: Virtual Launch of Bamboo Musical Instruments Teaching Modules Volume 1 on the 10th of June 2022, at 3:00 PM.


A collection of music lessons on bamboo music integrating the content and performance standards of the Philippine K to 12 music curriculum of 2013, the module sets are one of the publications produced from the DOST-FPRDI’s Bamboo Music Instruments Innovation Research and Development Program.


The launch aims to highlight the process of creating the 15 modules for elementary and high school levels, from ethnographic activities in ten selected bamboo music field sites, to the writing of the modules by music educators from the Philippine Society for Music Education (PSME).


The online event will also feature bamboo music performances by DOST-FPRDI Himig Agham Kawayan, UP College of Music Staff Shakers, DMMMSU-Kawayan Iti Amianan, Sining Tanglawan ng San Jose del Monte Performing Group, and Mr. Paul Jason Santiago.
